Especially with tiered cakes and multi-tier cakes, it is sometimes useful to support the lower cakes so that they can bear the weight of the upper cake. To do this, simply cut the cake sticks to the length of the lower cake so that the upper cake stands on the dowels and does not press the lower cake flat.
